“The Clare Valley is not the first place you might think of when compiling a list of great South Australian grenache regions; Barossa and McLaren Vale would spring to mind sooner.  But the variety does have a long history in Clare, and can produce bold red wines here, albeit often with a distinctly regional dark, sinewy edge. This has a hint of that chewiness but it’s mostly about up-front, floral raspberry fruit and spicy, medium-bodied easy drinkability at a good price.”

“Grown on the Rogers Vineyard, fermented for a week on skins with gentle pressings included. No oak. It’s an eye-catching colour, not overly deep but vivid. Fresh, sweetish aromas of musky perfume and red confectionery in the bouquet. On the light side of medium-bodied, it’s buoyant and ripe-fruited with a twist of gentle astringency to finish. Good value.”

“Clare Valley grenache at a snip of a price.  The thing here is that it’s bright and juicy. Clare Valley grenache is often neither; it’s often dull and plodding. This wine offers a mouthful of jubey raspberries and anise but also a strike of dry, orange-flecked spice. It has tannin too, tense and dry.  It’s light but it’s a good wine.”
