Moorilla is the second oldest vineyard in Tasmania. Founded by Claudio Alcorso, it was one of the most important wineries in helping to establish other wineries in the state. David Walsh bought Moorilla on a whim in 1995 after it went broke, more interested in the architecturally designed Roy Grounds round house on site not the wine. It has however, ended up being one of the defining decisions of his life. Magnificently situated on a mini-isthmus reaching into the Derwent River, Moorilla is now the entrance to MONA, David’s esteemed and wildly eccentric ancient and contemporary art museum.
