Matthew Jukes launched his 100 Best Australian Wines 2014/15 list last week at Australia House in London. A well-deserved inclusion is the 2012 Leconfield Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra, South Australia:
“Welcome back Leconfield. It’s been eight years since your last listing in the 100 Best and while a number of wines have just been squeaked out of this list in the intervening years this glorious Cabernet stepped over the line without a moment’s hesitation. Youthful, dusty, compact and spicy with leather and tobacco over a fine, taut, old-style Cabernet core, this is a nostalgic wine with serious appeal and stunning accuracy. Decanted (twice) you could conceivably drink it relatively soon, but if you allow it to snooze for a few years in a cool cellar I bet that even more of the terra rossa dirt will emerge and then you will get the whole unedited picture.”
